We All Scream For Swiss Cream

I am in the fun, Swiss town of Montreux, walking along Lake Geneva. As I have mentioned many times on Fed Up, the small country of Switzerland has made huge impacts in the wonderful world of food. I am pretty sure, Swiss-based Nestlé is one of the largest food companies in the world.

Of course we all think cheese and chocolates, when Swiss food is brought up… But here in Montreux on a sunny summer day, ICE CREAM is what is on everybody’s mind.

Now I am “Freaking Healthy,” so I pretty much avoid your typicaly decadent frozen desserts, but the rest of the Fed Up Family (and extended family, and friends) has no such dietary restrictions. And when it is hot in Switzerland, they all insist on Movenpick ice cream. A Swiss-born company that delivers some mighty tasty, very creamy ice cream.

Mr. Fed Up’s lil sister, a ice cream connoisseur, especially recommends the “Cafe” flavor. But she LOVES a flavor that recently showed up, but is still a rare find at many Movenpick locations; it is something called ‘Double Cream Merigune'(or something like that); sounds real real good…right?

This delicious brand has stands in parks and city centers, it is sold in grocery stores, and is served in restaurants. Yet, it is pretty much NON EXISTENT IN THE USA! My family and friends all savor this treat, and hate when they return back to their Movnpicke-less homes in the USA.

But there are MANY other products that are only found in certain countries and neglect the American consumer. I am sure there are distribution, competition and various others barriers to entery that prevent tasty stuff from finding shelf space in American grocery stores…but it just is really annoying how some of the best foods will likely never get to hop borders and enter our hungry market.

Double cream what? Sounds like we need more of a description for a make-your-own challenge 😉

Haha. A meringue is made from eggwhites and sugar to create a crunchy pastry that is often served with cream and strawberries. My Dad LOVES them!

Eh, maybe it’ll help Switzerland’s tourism. 😉 It’s a shame I won’t be able to get some of that ice cream unless I go there, though! Sounds amazing! 😀

Ya it is kind of sad that we miss out on so many tasty foods here in the USA…while we do have the BEST cereal selection in our grocery stores, I just had some great European cereals that I doubt we will ever get Stateside.
